Trust is crucial in selling. People buy trust first, products second. Building rapport, listening actively, using certain key words, mirroring non-verbal cues, pacing the conversation, and setting anchors help create trust. This is how NLP can be used to make you a successful sales professional.

Some people prefer visual words such as see, looks; picture this, and other colorful and illustrative words. A visual may say “Can you see what I mean?” Others like auditory words, such as listen or hear, sounds like, would rephrase the sentence as: “Can you hear what I’m saying?” Then there are those who prefer kinaesthetic phrasing, which focuses on how we feel about something, would result in something more like: “Do you get a feel for this?”

How You Will Benefit

For sales professionals like you, you can use NLP to

  • find out your prospect’s preferred language and respond them accordingly
  • match your sales strategy to your prospect’s buying strategy
  • apply the meta model if you want to cut to the chase in a sale when asked questions or faced with the anticipated objection
  • use anchoring to get a client to a specific mental state and create an association to it so that the state can be activated at will
  • make a more targeted pitch based on small signals from your customer
  • boost your communication skills and become a more effective in selling

Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) describes the fundamental dynamics between mind (neuro) and language (linguistic) and how their interplay affects our body and behavior (programming). It is a set of skills and insights where you can use your mind, body, and emotions to successfully communicate with other people. Used initially as a method in psychotherapy, NLP has found its way into helping those involved in sales.
